Key Stage 3 Mentoring

The Key Stage 3 Mentoring Programme offers pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 extra support with Literacy and Numeracy.

We work closely with the Pastoral Support Team and the English and Maths Departments to identify pupils who are at risk of underachieving and may require extra help to overcome barriers to learning. Once identified, we provide support on either a one to one basis or within a small group, dependent on the pupil’s needs, to ensure they are on track to achieve their goals

. We meet with pupils on a weekly basis for their catch up sessions; this also gives pupils the opportunity to discuss any problems concerning class work or homework which may have occurred.

Skills learnt during these sessions will enable pupils to access the curriculum more easily across all subject areas. Consequently we hope that pupils will gain increased confidence and the skills they acquire will be beneficial to them throughout their lives.

Key Stage 4 Mentoring

The Key Stage 4 Mentoring Programme continues to support pupils in Years 10 and 11 who experience difficulties which are preventing them from achieving their full potential.  In addition to support for English, Maths and Science, pupils receive support for every GCSE subject they are studying.  Each pupil on the programme has a regular meeting with their Mentor, during which they get the opportunity to discuss their progress in all subjects and set targets for the future.  The Mentoring room is open at break and lunch times, as well as after school until 4pm, for ALL pupils – not just those on the mentoring programme – who require help with their academic studies or any other issue which they would like to discuss.

Care, guidance and support are outstanding. Students are positive about the effective pastoral system that contributes to the 'family-like' community in the school..... Students feel safe in school, supported by the high levels of supervision throughout the day....Careers advice and support are excellent and ensure that students are well informed about the options available to them for the next stage of education and working life. Systematic whole-school procedures rigorously check on students'
academic progress. Day-to-day guidance to students on how to improve their performance is very effective.
