Year 10 Rounders

With winning the Borough Rounders League and Rally for the past three years, it was a big challenge for the Year 10s to maintain this achievement. However due to their hard work and dedication they won their last ever Rounders competition to make it 4 wins in a row. What a great accomplishment!  I would like to take this opportunity to say well done to both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ team for their hard work over the past four years with Rounders. They have done me proud.  The teams consisted of the following: Gemma Bailey, Georgia potter, Taya Staff, Sofiyat Kasim, Kirstie Woodgate, Katie Edmead, Mollie Driver, Bianca Bosdett, Michelle Normington, Chanel Byfield, Shiann Evans, Katy Dell, Tori Wheatly, Jodie Brazier, Rebecca Bibisombe, Phyllis Paca, Chantel Strachan, and Chelsea Rackham.

Big Dance Pledge

The big dance pledge took place from Monday 5th July to Friday 9th July.  Pupils from Robert Clack School took part in attempting to help break a world record.  Every day for one week the girls took part in an extra 20 minutes of dance each day.  On the Friday of that week they took part in breaking a world record, which involved them carrying out a short piece of dance at 1.00pm.  Pupils had a fantastic time and performed the dance brilliantly and were a real credit to themselves and the school.  I would like to congratulate all pupils that took part and for their efforts in breaking this record.  They were: Kirsty McCreight, Jadye Barry, Kirsty Smith, Sho-Shanna White, Molly Mcnally, Georgia Smith, Bethany Tallon, Naomi Nuamah, Deanna Smith, Rachael Shodijo, Courtney Coote, Danielle Corbally, Sophie Charalambous, Zenaida Anum, Lecita Bowen, Kelly Quirke, Ellie Roworth, Cara Nott, Lauren Smyth, Jessica Shaw, Chelsea Webb, Karis Wood, Daisy Wood, Celina Okoduwa, Neema Dedes, Robyn Barnard, Millie Billany, Jade Guest, Amy Dench, Navdeep Snotra, Gabby Mahal, Teniola Ogunsanya, Jodie Moran, Ruby Canary, Jourdan Mason-White, Freddie Houlder, Kirsty Deeble, Laura Knierien, Folakemi Ogun

Sports Tours Fundraising hits 14k

The PE department have been working tirelessly to reach their £30k fundraising total to support the forthcoming Canada and Barbados Sports Tours. A number of events have taken place since Christmas including a quiz night, non-kit week, Netball Dinner, RFU raffle and bag packing at Morrisons and Tesco. The latter two have brought in large sums of money thanks to the support of the parents and the local community, which the school is very grateful for.

netball.jpg  Year 10 Netball

Congratulations on another successful year for both the A and B Netball team. Both teams worked hard throughout the season to come runners up in the Redbridge rally, borough league and borough rally. The team consists of:

Year 11 team

It is sad to see the year 11 Netball squad leaving Robert Clack but at least they finished on a high. They won the borough league and rally for the fifth year running. That is a great achievement. The B team came 3rd playing extremely well in every one of their games. I hope that they still continue to play Netball as each of them are fantastic players. The team consisted of:

Amanda Ngonyama, Paris Rhodes, Jodie Ashdown, Tia Howard, Amy Lucas, Shanica Simmons, Emma Light, Shelby Osbourne, Jasmine Darling, Rebecca Rachdi, Jessica Wallin, Rosie Graham, Hannah Butcher, Sunnie Charles-Haskins, Lianne Lusted and Georgie Cameron.

Robert Clack Netballers Weekend in Devon

On Friday March 19th, five of Robert Clacks netball teams left sunny Dagenham and travelled to rainy Devon!  They competed in a netball tournament with various schools from around the UK being represented.  All pupils on the trip behaved impeccably and did Robert Clack proud with their superb netball play.  Each and every one of the girls demonstrated enormous strength of character and displayed great potential.  In fact to illustrate Clack’s netballing strength, three of the five teams got through to the semi-finals before the Year 7’s went on to win in the final and be crowned tournament  champions!  Their victory was even more significant as we were the only school to field Year 7’s and consequently, they had to compete against Year 8 girls in a pool of eleven teams. The winners were captained by Tyla Murray and the team included, Tailler Baker, Robyn Byrne, Betty Harding, Omotola Olaleye, Chanel Palmer-Davies and Rachael Shodijo.

Well done to all the girls involved

All four teams now travel to National finals in March 2010.

Catherine Bates (Head Coach Robert Clack School and Grafton Junior School)

September 2009

S7000887.JPGOn the 5th September 2009, 17 year old Brown Belt Houda and her younger brother, 12 year old Black Belt Nassime Vernege-Fanus,  participated in the Tang Soo Do European Championship at the Kelsey Kerrridge sports centre in Cambridge.

There were over 300 participants of all ages and form all over Europe. Tang Soo Do is Korean martial arts run by the Grandmaster Jae C. Shin and is approximately 2000 years old.

This competition was a continuation from the National championships, which was held in Birmingham earlier on this year. In which Houda and Nassime both  secured a place in the European championships.  Houda won two gold medals and Nassime two silver medals and a bronze respectively.

The competition was tough because both siblings had been placed in categories which was comprised of opponents who had either higher belts or older people in them.  Nassime  earned two silver medals in weapons and form techniques and one gold medal in fighting; becoming the European champion in his category even though he had to fight against boys up to the age of 15. However Houda, having earlier receiving a blow from much older competitor, won two gold medals in weapons and form techniques and a bronze medal in fighting despite being the youngest in my category  which was 17 and above.

Credit must go to their Tang Soo Do teacher Mr Harrt, without him this achievement would be impossible. He is an outstanding man and teacher, who  loves seeing his students do well.

Overall it was a great experience and both students were delighted with their achievements. Now the hard work really starts as the Dagenham pair aim towards the World Championships in America next year July 2010. Watch Out Here Come The British!

The art of Tang Soo Do is still underfunded and both Nassime and Houda will require sponsorship to compete at the worlds next year. If anyone is interested in helping the dynamic duo please contact Mr Goyette via the Robert Clack School address.
