hospitality dinner

The Year 13 BTEC Hospitality class prepared, cooked and served a three course dinner to a select group of Robert Clack staff to raise money for the Florio Fund on Tuesday the 1st of May.
The menu consisted of three starters, roasted butternut squash soup with garlic and chilli, breaded mushrooms with a sour cream dip and a classic prawn cocktail on a bed of lettuce with Melba toast.
The mains were baked salmon in a parsley sauce with creamed potatoes and green beans, Mediterranean chicken with courgettes and baby tomatoes wrapped in bacon served with wild rice, and vegetable and lentil Moussaka with garlic bread and a green salad.
The desserts were tropical fruit Pavlova, pink strawberry Cheesecake served with a fruit coulis and cream, and lastly, mini chocolate fudge cake served with whipped cream.
This was part of a BTEC Level 3 unit on Contemporary World Food which is the final one of the six units of their assessment.
Other units included ‘Food and Drink Service’, ‘European Food’,’ Asian Food’ and ‘The Hospitality Business’.
During the two year course students learn a vast range of cooking skills and front of house skills. Not only are they learning the basics but they are learning to be creative and innovative. They learn to work as a team and independently and particularly how to work in a professional environment.
The students managed to raise nearly £600 for towards the Florio Kazazi fund.

cut film competition

A humorous send up of cigarette adverts is Robert Clack's entry in a national anti-smoking short film competition.
Our students have submitted their efforts to the Cut Film Competition, which asks young people to write and produce a short film which discourages their peers from smoking.
Members of the public have until May 4 to vote for which film they like best.
The Robert Clackc entry is a film called Tobbacorama, which makes fun of the old cigarette adverts on TV that are now banned.
The students have uploaded their effort on Youtube, Facebook and Twitter and shared it with friends in a hope of getting their anti-smoking message across and boosting their votes.
Rob Jones, 17, one of the film's stars, said response to the film has been very good. "We've had great feedback. People have said it's really funny and gets the anti-smoking message across in a non-patronising way that appeals to both young people and adults."
The competition forms part of the Deborah Hutton campaign which aims to make young people think twice before smoking. Deborah was a highly-acclaimed journalist from north London who died at the age of 49 from lung cancer. She had smoked as a young woman but had given up at the age of 24.

u16 netball champions
At the end of March, the U16 netballers reached the Essex Plate Final. They were drawn against William De Ferrers (last year’s winners) who, as expected, were very tough competition. After pulling away in the first quarter and gaining a 7-goal lead, Robert Clack then struggled at times to get their momentum going again. William De Ferrers slowly started coming back, to the point where there was just one goal separating them in the last quarter. The shooters were feeling the pressure, the defence battled for every interception and Clack managed to hang on to that one goal lead to become Essex Plate Champions – winning 15-14. Well done to Chloe Coster, Chloe Stanley, Charale Elwin, Ellie-Mai Lyme, Jessica Kyremateng, Lucy Allen, Sharon Akaka, Rebecca Shobodu, Dominique Forbes, Grace Noibi, and the captain Hannah Oluseitan for their outstanding play.

clack in the community
Age UK Redbridge is a registered charity which aims to improve qualtiy of life for the elderly. They have recently asked for the support of young people in our borough to help improve the ICT skills of their clients. It was great to see Robert Clack Sixth Form students responding in large numbers to this need.
The Sixth Formers, after formal training, have now begun this important work. The sessions have been a great success so far with Age UK clients commenting on the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. We are extremely proud of our Sixth Formers and their contribution to the community. Many thanks to Mr Saleem who has spearheaded this fantastic initiative.
We hope to expand our offer even further so if you are interested in volunteering please contact Mr Saleem.

On Wednesday the 27th of February The Mayor was presented with a cheque for £500 from Sir Paul Grant which will go towards the Mayor's charities. This money was raised during our recent non uniform day. In total £2,825 was raised for good causes in the local area.

This is an outstanding school. Students enter the school with standards that are broadly average; they make outstanding progress to achieve substantially higher than average results in national examinations in Year 9 and at GCSE. The school strives and is ambitious for students' success. Results in Year 9 and GCSE have continued to improve year by year. Students achieve outstandingly because teaching, learning and the curriculum are of a consistently high standard.
