Ex Robert Clack brothers Anthony and Aaron McLean recently returned to the school to discuss ways in which they can give something back to their school and local community.

Anthony McLean, is currently signed to Warner Brother records. His debut single "Broken" was released on 26 October 2009. The song was first released independently in 2007, and has since then accrued over 20 million hits across major social networking sites.

Anthony is the son of the Lovers Rock musician, John McLean. Under the pseudonym of "Digga" he collaborated with M. J. Cole on "Gotta Have It"; then with drum and bass duo Chase & Status on the song "Take U There", which featured on the debut album, More Than Alot.

McLean cites 1960s and 1970s soul musicians as his influences; “I love the soul men and women from then – Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Aretha, Michael Jackson and Bros. It’s the best music ever made – it just has a feeling.  It was the birth of McLean's daughter which spurred him on to make his musical dreams a reality. “Me and My Business partner D-el the producer went at it hard, making and sending out t-shirts and CDs, and setting up a Myspace page. We’d wake at the crack of dawn and work until we couldn’t stay awake – even if that was two days later” he stated. Around this time, the singer also took jobs as a night watchman, at a fire alarm factory and at Pizza Hut in order to support his family.

Anthony has worked with record producers Fraser T. Smith, Phil Tan, Dylan Dresdow, Nate  Hills, plus Naughty Boy to produce his first album.  Confirmed songs include the top 10 UK hit "My Name"; "Great Escape", "Try Me" and the Smith produced "One More Night", Finally in Love and Broken.

Aaron McLean attended Robert Clack School from 1994 – 1999. Upon leaving school he signed for Leyton Orient and then Aldershot Town. He then played for Grays Athletic before joining League Two side, Peterborough on loan, on 31 October 2006. McLean then joined Peterborough permanently, for £150,000, when the transfer window opened on 1 January 2007.

Aaron had his best statistical year in Peterborough's 2007–08 campaign, which resulted in promotion to League One. McLean scored 29 goals in the league in 45 appearances that season, which made him the League's leading scorer and earned him the League Two Golden Boot. He also scored three goals in four FA Cup appearances that year.

On 30 December 2010, it was confirmed on the official website that McLean would transfer to Hull City at the start of the January 2011 transfer window. He made his debut in the New Year's Day game with Leicester City coming on as a first half substitute.

At the time of writing Aaron had currently scored over 130 goals in just over  400 appearances for his various clubs.

Sir Paul Grant said “ I am massively proud of these two young men and what they have achieved. I want them to be a major part of the Robert Clack Alumni because of the outstanding role models that they are.”

kike oniwinde

Kike Oniwinde, 19-year-old ex-pupil of Robert Clack is on target to fulfil her dream of one day representing Britain in the Olympic Championships. The PE staff at Robert Clack monitor Kike’s progress with pride and are in touch with the undergraduate as she studies for an Economics degree at Nottingham University.

It was apparent from Year 7 that Kike was an exceptionally talented athlete. She participated in all sports across the Curriculum and shone in athletics. Not surprisingly she went on to become English Schools Senior Champion in her chosen event, the javelin.

Kike currently competes in the U20’s age group and has a Personal Best of 49.35m. She is a South of England Bronze medallist and an England AAA Bronze medallist. This year for the first time Kike represented Great Britain and finished 17th in Europe at the European Juniors Championship. She currently trains with a GB Team Javelin Coach at Loughborough University.

It is a known fact that sport sharpens the mind as well as the muscle and, with three A grades at A Levels, Kike is a testament to what can be achieved. I’m sure that her ambitions of becoming a world class athlete will one day be fulfilled

Ex Robert Clack pupil Charlotte Burch beat off fierce competition with her band "Empty Headz" to win the nationwide battle of the bands competition, held by BlastBeak UK.

After successfully passing through the audition stage to reach the finals, Charlotte and her band had to perform at the famous O2 arena in London.

The band are just about to sign a management deal with the founder of U2, and they hope this will be the start of a successful music career.

Charlotte paid tribute to Robert Clack School for allowing her the many opportunities to develop her musical talent and paid particular tribute to Mrs Churchill who encouraged and mentored her during her time here.

Well done Charlotte and good luck!

Younger students welcome the excellent role models displayed by older students. This enables them to make an effective contribution to the school. Students are proud of their significant involvement in decision making at the school. This has encouraged their awareness of how to learn more effectively and consequently improve their work. Students' participation in sporting activities is high. They develop excellent relationships with the community, and take part in a range of performances attended by parents and other people from the area.
