Pastoral Care - Year 8

message from Head of Year 8

I take great pleasure in being the Acting Leader of the Learning Community to Year 8 and working with the pupils of Robert Clack. Last year was a fantastic start and I look forward to being a part of the continued development of the cohort throughout their year.

This year is an important stepping stone. It is the last year before they undertake GCSE or BTEC courses. It not only marks a transition for those  academic subjects, but also the development of our children into young adults.

Last year was a pleasure to witness such a plethora of talents from pupils, and I anticipate greater things in the year ahead. Many of our pupils are active members of the school council that perform vital roles in the day to day aspects of the school. These pupils are role models to the new Year 7 students but also are inspirations to their friends and peers.

Throughout the year, pupils will be rewarded for their efforts and achievements in weekly assemblies. Each assembly will have a moral theme that is designed to challenge pupils thoughts and conceptions, ultimately affording them a perspective that will allow them to understand how societies function.

The focus for Year 8 is respect. Throughout the year, pupils will enhance their social skills and develop their moral code in skills for life lessons. To respect each other and ones self is the key to pupils developing into mature and thoughtful individuals.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents for their on-going support: together we will aid our children in pursuit of their dreams and aspirations.

Care, guidance and support are outstanding. Students are positive about the effective pastoral system that contributes to the 'family-like' community in the school. Students feel safe in school, supported by the high levels of supervision throughout the day. There are outstanding links with local authority and other external agencies so that vulnerable students including looked after children are well cared for. Careers advice and support are excellent and ensure that students are well informed about the options available to them for the next stage of education and working life. Systematic whole-school procedures rigorously check on students' academic progress. Day-to-day guidance to students on how to improve their performance is very effective.
