Pastoral Care - Year 9

Message from the Head of Year: Mrs muirhead

Greetings all, I am Mrs Muirhead, Year 9 Learning Community Team Leader. It is with great pleasure that I lead Year 9 through this very crucial stage of their education, as they transition from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4.

The Year 9’s have made a pleasing start to the year and are very aware of the responsibility they hold to be role-models and trend-setters in aiming high.

With the end of the SATs examinations last year, this group are starting GCSE preparation in some subject areas, as well as completing their Key Stage 3 curriculum. I am confident that with focus and the fantastic support of our teaching and Pastoral team, they will do very well indeed.

Our vision for Year 9 is Pursuing Excellence in:

  • Academic achievement and effort
  • Conduct and attitude
  • Contributions to the school and wider community

I would like to thank the parents of our pupils for your unwavering support, as we work in partnership to ensure that our young people and future leaders develop into well-rounded individuals and achieve great success.

Care, guidance and support are outstanding. Students are positive about the effective pastoral system that contributes to the 'family-like' community in the school. Students feel safe in school, supported by the high levels of supervision throughout the day. There are outstanding links with local authority and other external agencies so that vulnerable students including looked after children are well cared for. Careers advice and support are excellent and ensure that students are well informed about the options available to them for the next stage of education and working life. Systematic whole-school procedures rigorously check on students' academic progress. Day-to-day guidance to students on how to improve their performance is very effective.
