Level 1/2 Award in Construction and the Built Environment is designed to support learners in schools and colleges who want to learn about the construction industry from the planning and building perspective. It provides learners with a broad introduction to the practical sector of the construction industry, the types of career opportunities available and a clear overview of the construction industry. It is suitable as a foundation for further study. This further study could provide learners with the awareness of the work of different types of job roles in the sector such as architects, design engineers, surveyors and planning officers. As a result, they may wish to start an apprenticeship or continue with their studies into higher education in order to pursue those job roles. 



  • Course Structure

    Unit 1: Safety and security in construction 

    This unit is externally assessed through a 1 hour 30 minutes exam. Students will learn about

    ● Be introduced to the principles of the built environment and have the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding in identifying, explaining and evaluating different ideas and concepts of the built environment.

    ● Explore a range of professional and trade roles

    ● Explore some of the different structures and buildings of the built environment


    Unit 3: Constructing the Built Environment 

    You will study three construction trade areas of the built environment, including planning, undertaking and evaluating construction tasks. .
