‘This Programme has taught me to have a proper mindset for classes and school overall’

‘They teach you a lot about yourself and how to strive for the best in school.’

‘For me, the most useful session was “What makes a successful student”. This is because going again through it, gave me more guidance on how to become the student I’ve always wished to be; kind, smart, funny, and it makes going to Robert Clack way easier, knowing how to become successful as a student.’

Introduction

The most successful students have well developed learning behaviours- these learning behaviours can be summarised as VESPA (Vision, Effort, Systems, Practice, Attitude).

Through our Achieve Excellence Programme (AEP) we aim to guide and teach our students to develop these attributes and become successful learners.

Through a carefully planned programme, our students from Year 7 to 13 are supported to develop the right skills at the right time in their education. This is achieved through:

  • Tailored sessions in Assembly, Form Time and KS5 Tutorials that aim to support students to ‘Achieve A Appraisals’. Students are learning how to reflect on their learning and progress, build good routines and study habits, learn how to use their planners, prepare for assessments and examinations as well as learn about Growth mindset and how to develop the Attitude for learning.
  • Whole Year Group and ‘small group’ student seminars that further equip students with key learning strategies. Those include discussions about time management, how to effectively learn and master their content and prepare for public examinations as well as receive support with learning and memorising subject specific content.
  • Subject specific implementation where students learn how they can study and succeed in each particular subject.
  • Achieve Excellence Mentoring supports students that need one-to-one guidance on how to succeed in their studies. Further information can be found in the ‘Achieve Excellence Mentoring’ section of this page.
  • Parent Webinars/Seminars and Parent Guides – Parent Webinars/Seminars and Guides are being shared regularly to support parents with learning at home.
  • Raising Aspirations Programme – Our students are given the opportunity to extend themselves outside the classroom, deepen their knowledge in various subjects, understand their options after GCSE and Sixth Form and develop their motivation in order to work hard and make informed decisions about their future. This information is shared regularly on Gach Year group’s google classroom where students have the opportunity to find extra reading, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and apply to extracurricular and super-curricular opportunities. Those opportunities include Summer schools, seminars, webinars, masterclasses etc and are organised by universities and large organisations.

Please see what our students at KS3 are saying:

‘I used to be quiet, and barely talk in class. But I persevered and overcame my shyness. I talk more in class than I used to and I now get more involved in lesson time. I believe this has helped me improve into being a better and successful student.’

‘The sessions helped me find my strengths and weaknesses. They helped me improve myself into becoming a better student and I started to notice that my test scores were also going higher. Now, I am more confident and I started to get involved in lessons.’

‘Preparing for revision helped me see that it’s not as scary as it seems, when you plan things and stick to a routine.’

‘One of the most useful sessions of the Achieve Excellence Programme was the lesson that taught us that mistakes are part of success and the importance of having a positive mindset. This teaches us to persevere and work hard!’

‘I have learnt that it is never too late to create good habits and that revising in an effective way can actually help with improving test scores.’

‘The revision strategies were very useful and I think that it really helps me when I revise. It really helps me get good scores in my test and I think that's what helped me become a more successful student than I was before.’

‘Organization has helped me the most this term, as I have always been keeping on top of my classwork and homework.’

‘I learnt the different strategies I can use to deal with my education and how to focus on my mistakes in order to improve.’

‘I found useful learning ways to improve our learning for example, reflections. This enables us to track how we are doing in lessons and at home and to know how to improve our learning.’
