As a reward for their outstanding effort and achievement throughout the year, a group of Year 9 GCSE Religious Education pupils were selected by the RE department for a special trip to St Paul’s Cathedral. This enriching visit not only celebrated their hard work but also provided valuable insight into topics linked to their GCSE curriculum.
The day began with a guided tour of the magnificent cathedral, where pupils were introduced to stunning mosaics, artwork, and historical sculptures. They had the opportunity to ask thought-provoking questions, try on traditional garments worn by bishops and priests, and explore various areas within the cathedral that highlighted Christian worship, beliefs, and historical context.
A moment of reflection followed as students were invited to light candles if they wished, offering them a peaceful chance to pause and contemplate. Lunch provided a wonderful opportunity for pupils from all three school sites to connect, socialise, and enjoy their time together. Some students even ventured into the gift shop, where they got their first taste of London prices — a real eye-opener for many!

The day concluded with a self-guided climb to the top of the cathedral dome — a challenging 528 steps to reach the Golden Gallery. This final stretch, though tiring, was well worth the effort. The panoramic views of London were breathtaking, and the shared sense of achievement brought a strong feeling of unity among the group. It was truly a memorable experience.
The team at St Paul’s Cathedral were incredibly welcoming and had high praise for our students, noting:
“They had wonderful things to say about your students and were so impressed by the willingness to engage in the topic and have meaningful discussions.”Our pupils were a credit to Robert Clack School — their behaviour was impeccable, and they represented us with pride.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this trip possible. We’re already looking forward to next year… and another 528 steps!
