Reading and the Library

At Robert Clack reading is of utmost importance. We passionately believe that reading for pleasure helps students to improve their literacy levels and future life chances.

We have three excellent libraries which are well stocked with a range of interesting literature. Students are able to take out two books at a time and they are responsible for looking after them and paying any fines for late/lost books.

We use Accelerated Reader to track students reading and it forms an individualised online reading record for each student. The system allows students to take quizzes on books ant it will count the number of words that they have read. In each lesson students are rewarded for passing their quizzes. Each term there are gift vouchers on offer!

The highest achieving readers will become millionaires and received a certificate in Assembly and will be celebrated with a special treat.

Literacy

As a school we take the literacy of our students very seriously. We ensure that students are supported with specialised reading lessons in the library at KS3 on Green Lane and Lymington.

We use assemblies to promote the ‘Word of the Week’ and students are very keen to use these words in lessons to extend their vocabulary. Clack Audible is used during registration to help improve literacy for all of our pupils.

Each department has a literacy representative to ensure that literacy is addressed throughout the school in every lesson.
